Eastern Oregon

Eastern Oregon is wide-open land with beautiful prairies, rivers, mountains, deserts and lakes. This region is famous for its wildlife viewing, ancient fossils and cattle ranches. Yes! Young cowboys and cowgirls still ride the range. You can learn all about cattle drives at the “Cowboys Then & Now” exhibit at the Union County Museum in Union. Or travel to Tamástslikt Cultural Institute, where you will learn all about the Native American tribes who live right here in Oregon. Check out artifacts, illustrations, events, and more!

Did you know that pioneers on the Oregon Trail passed through this region? You can walk in the pioneers’ tracks, pan for gold and learn about life on the trail at the National Historic Oregon Trail Interpretive Center near Baker City.
