Cool Dude!

Families, get your giddy up going horseback riding, fishing, swimming, rafting, canoeing and exploring at Rock Springs Ranch. When parents are ready to rest and enjoy a massage for their saddle sores, youth wranglers carry on buckaroo activities for kids. They’ll hitch up the hay wagon, roast the marshmallows, organize talent shows, lead nature walks and lasso up enough good memories to fuel campfire stories for years to come.

Lava Land of Wonders

Yo ho, yo ho, pirates would love this cave. And who wouldn’t want to wonder as you wander Lava River Cave, a family-friendly underground tube?

Start at Lava Lands Visitor Center for orientation to the 5,000-plus acres of ancient lava fields, Cascades lakes, and other geological features of Newberry National Volcanic Monument. Stand atop Lava Butte, one of 400 area cinder cones. Stretch your legs and imagination on the self-guided ‘Trail of Molten Land’. Scale Paulina Peak (7,985 ft.) or fish at its feet.

The Wild, Wild West

Meet the rockstars of the desert: snakes, lizards, kangaroo rats, bats and a cat named Bob. From the Desertarium to a forest fire exhibit to spying on otters both above and below the water’s surface, Bend’s High Desert Museum is awesome! The exhibit, “Dig! Crawl! Climb!” lets us all behave like animals—a burrowing owl, a swinging spider, a leaping wildcat. Yes, these are some wild times…
